Description

Revolutions Bicycle Cooperative opened its doors in the basement of First Congo at 1000 South Cooper St. in June of 2002 with the intention of saving the world, one bicycle at a time. That summer, Revolutions built a shop where people could rehabilitate and recycle bicycles. We dedicated ourselves to providing all Memphians—particularly the working poor of Memphis—with bicycles that function well. We wanted to create a place where people could acquire the tools and knowledge to keep bicycles rolling, and more importantly, to make a positive impact on the community one bicyclist at a time. Years later, we have recycled and rehabilitated thousands of bicycles. Revolutions helps people of all ages build bicycles from scratch. We teach the mechanically un-inclined how to fix a flat tire and provide hundreds of children access to bicycles and the freedom that comes along with the open road. We have experienced cyclists that ride along with new riders and even a senior citizens ride through Overton Park on tricycles. Members learn how to work on while also ride bicycles. Revolutions believes learning how to fix up bicycles makes a difference in their lives and riding those bicycles in Memphis makes our city a better place to live.
